Hi Stefan, I was wondering if you have an opinion you'd like to share regarding Bitcoin. Or if you've already commented on it somewhere, could someone post a link?

You've given me a lot of insight regarding economics, money and banking, and bitcoin seems to be right in line with a free-market approach to currency. Though I am not myself a computer programmer or an expert on software, I can see that the approaches taken in protecting bitcoin from various forms of fraud and theft are very creative. That said, there are problems (i.e. if your computer catches fire, your bitcoins are lost), but I think that these various hurdles can be overcome as something like bitcoin comes out of its infancy. In a free world, I imagine currency as something like bitcoin - except there would be competition, and lots of it!

In this time of dollar devaluation and gold/silver mania, I am very intrigued by bitcoin.

    Thanks,

    Nick

Stef (and all of us, actually) I hope you've taken steps to secure your bitcoin "wallets". It seems security is still in its infancy in the bitcoin universe.

I just did. I think it is pretty bad that they did not include a master password feature to unlock your wallets within the bitcoin client itself. People that are currently not tech savy will have a hard time doing it properly. If you want to get your hands dirty, have a look at their Securing your wallet page.

Wow, if I'm looking at that right, at current prices people have donated over $4,000 in bitcoins to Stef. Impressive, guess bitcoins have gotten valuable.
