What rich people think

Recommended Posts

From time to time you can play mouse and see what rich people think and say when they are amongst themselves. It's pretty different from what is discussed on radio and TV, needless to say. The change of perspective from the daily grind to problems we might face in the future and the solutions are eye opening. https://medium.com/s/futurehuman/survival-of-the-richest-9ef6cddd0cc1

Considering the political beliefs of the journalist, I'm skeptical of how truthful this report was.

However, having said that, it is hardly surprising if a handful of billionaires really are afraid of the migrant crisis robbing them of everything they worked hard to gain. After all, all they have is money; not an army to protect themselves or enforce some sort of idealized social change. In super-extreme times, it's not the guys with money that thrive but the guys with swords and the commanders of them.

But a small handful of rich folks, hedge fund managers at that, is hardly representative of "the rich" given how diverse the rich are compared to any other social or racial class. I can't imagine 2 billionaires having the same opinion on much of anything, even if they're willing to set it aside to work together.

I can't blame the handful talked about for their worries though; if I were them, I'd be worried too. After all, if the Right doesn't sheriff up the West then they really are in danger of foreign and native looters and riotous militaries and militias.

But, because there is such a strong pushback against the Left and a general trend towards their recession and (numeric) demise, I am not all that worried for the future as the chances of the world-ending or whatever are extremely low--provided my generation of the Right succeeds in pushing back the Left from their madness.

Well it makes sense. Wealthy people do not work for hourly basis, they make money by using systems. ie. why make chairs by hand when you could have a factory? Why work for a business when you could invest in a business? etc. Personally how I do this process is I do some activity and it makes money then I "step back" I figure out how to automate whatever it was I was doing before, with computers, employees, or other systems. So they are looking at a crisis and want systems in place that will allow them to continue to live and thus continue to create value. To someone like me, this seems obvious. Probably because I worry about the same things they do and have my own plans in action to achieve it.

The writer is an obvious liberal cuck whining about why they don't make changes to better society. How about he just makes his own money and then instead of using it to protect himself he donates it to charities. What an idiot.

The salient point is that even smart and rich people are clueless when it comes to their ideology. Their individualism, which helped them prosper and grow rich, doesn't let them see obvious solutions to the problem of safety. They needed an external expert to tell them what everybody who studied history for a few minutes knows. Feudalism is the most stable political relationship and that liberal democracy is a blip in time enabled by cheap money and cheap fossil fuels.

Provide housing for their security's families.  Exploiting their familial bonds to establish your own place as a benevolent patriarch.  Make sure that production of food, fuel, or some other post-collapse good is done on your settlement, so that you can establish trade / alliances with whatever force ends up in a leadership role post collapse.  I envision a post-collapse world with a bunch of rich libertarians in bunkers with no skills or reason to come out, a bunch of liberals who quickly either become the victims of or members of tribal gangs, and some rural conservatives actually repopulating and rebuilding from their small town community that pulled together people who actually knew and trusted each other (and also had practical skills).

This. But feudalism is also capitalism. People make feudal settlements today. See many cults, see some super rich peoples compounds, etc. Don't forget, if you buy an island, you have employees who work it in return for food and shelter.

The reason why kings would not tolerate disobedience is because you cant have your employees running around building up a coalition against you. You disobey you are beheaded or kicked off with your family into the cold and banished.

The socio-economic enviroment changed with the advent of farming. Once you have farming, you have feudalism coming in outcompeting the hapless hunters and gatherers.
