• Determinism

I know this is a forbidden topic on here, but I'm going to say what I have to say and if I get shut down, so be it. I support Stefan's work. I can't recall a single thing I've disagreed with him on. Except determinism. Now imo, Stef has based his entire philosophy (or at least thinks...

  • Free will in determinism.

I believe in determinism. If we accept the scientific method then we accept causality. If we accept causality then we cannot also accept the opposite which would be randomness, lack of predictability and consistency, etc. Free will says that we have the ability to choose for ourselves. There may be influences...

  • So I did this once, but my account was then deleted because people thought "fake"

My previous profile name was brooke I think. I just still have the emails sent from this forum. One of them is of my status update when I first joined: I'll just repost and start again. I am a real person. I say that because: Re: Hi By erased name Introduce Yourself! After actually reading your post...

  • Re: topic of determinism closed down
What definition of "deterministic" are you working with, where something is not deterministic, but not random?
my framework is what mises called "methodological dualism". it states that the mind can't be described as a result of physics...

  • On Morality: Non-Universalized Subjectivity is the Illusion of Free Will

Determined “Morality” “Morality” is a concept which claims to explain optional yet preferable behavior for human interaction. In order to be a valid theory of “morality” it must be, like any theory, rational, i.e. universal, logical, consistent, reversible, predictable...

  • Hero's & Podcast 1233

Ok. So basically podcast 1233 is the greatest thing I've ever heard. It's just a slight over 1 hour, I highly recommend you give it a listen. I listen to it and feel like a god damned hero, which is a great contrast against droning armies of the double speak zombie masses. I was curious, are...

  • Re: No Proof Man Causes Global Warming
So, a safer - and in the long run, more certain - technique, is to appeal to our relgious conditioning. You are selfish and thoughtless and must be punished for your sins! Either you can accept our worldly punishment now, or you will suffer an eternity of suffering later...

  • Re: What are your disagreements with Stef?

Hello Metric, It seems to me the problem you outlined might be centered around the broad physical application of Determinism and what I consider the erroneous phylisophical ramifications that are often if not usually assumed along the same lines. Scientifically, determinism is completely valid (and long...

  • Re: What is Free Will?
My understanding of free will is that it is at least partially, if not substantially defined as the ability to compare reality to an abstract concept in our minds, and then act accordingly.
"Free Will is being able to choose...

  • Understanding the argument against Determinism

This thread is obviously not one in which I am inviting people to seriously debate in favor of Determinism, but I was hoping that someone could help me understand what has always seemed to me like an obvious objection to the argument I commonly hear against Determinism on FDR. As far as I understand...
