• Re: Does a Godless Multiverse Have Bigfoot Butlers?
Stephen Hawking: "The laws of science, as we know them at present, contain many fundamental numbers, like the size of the electric charge of the electron and the ratio of the masses of the proton and the electron. ... The remarkable fact is that the values of these numbers seem to have been very finely adjusted

I felt very uneasy about this march for Adam. Given the recent debate about guns in the US. It sems this march could further fuel the idea that libertarians are just gun slinging nutjobs. Not that that necessarily matters of course, having a potentially deadly confrontation with the state

  • Re: UK Gov Considers How To Get Its Filthy Hands On Bitcoin

Agreed Anders. "About 50 civil servants from HM Revenue & Customs, the Serious Organised Crime Agency, Home Office and GCHQ – the intelligence listening service – held a one-day conference which examined how Bitcoin works and how criminals might seek to exploit the electronic cash system , which is currently unregulated by any financial

  • Re: Twitter Map of Hate

Apologies for the ensuing rant. What I find interesting about this type of research is how it attempts at shaming collective groups into a more ethical stance. No one doubts that racism, sexism and homophobia exist within some people. Way more less than say 40 years ago of course. But given all the laws that are in place to criminalise such thoughts

  • Re: weird feelings on mother's day...
My question for you is, do you think people change? Is it worth giving people another chance after such disrespect and pain? If so, how would i begin to do this?
I'm going to assume that any reconciliation with your mother would involve pointing out her past behaviour and explaining how you felt about

  • Re: Military sexual trauma is commonplace, women vets say

As a segue to Alans recent post regarding the Pentagon report that there is an average of 70 sexual assaults a day in the military. A naval officer describes how he was treated by the military after being raped by a superior officer whilst on active service. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/07/military-sexual-assaults-2012_n_3230248.html

  • Re: Determinism Fail
Yeah, I know you'd think it would be something simple like semantics, but it basically boils down to the fact that Stefan just can't imagine how deterministic physics could possibly give rise to beings who can imagine and evaluate different courses of action. He's been repeating this for years , and is apparently
