• Re: Is Buddhism Self-Contradictory Nonsense?

This is probably a newb mistake but I'm gonna throw two-cents in the arena without reading pages and pages of replies.... Quick take on Buddhism...as a psychological technology for being happy, some of its tenets work. I have adopted some teachings from Buddhism, Taoism and other philosophical systems..I say philosophical because I reject any mystical

  • Re: Why Real-Time Relationships is clearly superior to its contemporaries....

Simon, I agree...keep in mind, we're (or at least U.S.) living in a society where Jersey Shore and the museum of human oddity that is Reality TV is being followed by millions.. For these kind of people, finding a person who even recognizes the socratic method is a challenge... That said, the fact makes finding friends who do engage in reasoned dicourse

  • Re: Possible Debate: Stefan Molyneux v. William Lane Craig
I think a lot of people are afraid to label themselves as agnostic because they think Christians or other religious folk would respond with, "Aha, see? You admit it's possible!" It would give them a bit of leniency and they'd use it to justify their positions. I base that theory off of my reluctance

GregG: A very profound analysis of a subject that is new to me. Many thanks for giving me new enlightenment about relationships. Like Rosenberg, I have often pondered "What happens to disconnect us from our compassionate nature, leading us to behave violently and exploitatively?" Whether due to genes or environment, I have always been a non

  • Re: Supply-side issues and the DRO

We've discussed if, how and to what extent a DRO would work. It seems to me if you began a society from ground zero ..a DRO will organicaly form. We're social animals and while I won't go so far as to claim we have a "DRO instinct" we do possess an evolved sense of reciprocity and altruism (that is after the needs of our kin group

  • Re: Possible Debate: Stefan Molyneux v. William Lane Craig

Craig seems to belong to the Don Draper (Mad Men) school of discourse: "If you don't like the direction of the message, change it" So often, I hear Craig responding to or affirming a claim that's not being made. At that point, the opponent is stuck with either allowing Craig's misdirection to go unchallenged or simply moving on

  • Re: Trying to explain Property Rights to someone, looking for input... :)

How would you enforce this ethic onto a large group of people? It seems like the very act of assigning "legitimacy" upon property "rights" implies violence as a potential tool.
Good question! Determining legitimate property rights is crucial to achieving a free-society

  • Re: Can freemarket capitalism exist without the state?

I suppose the concept of capitalism to some degree requires land (a place I can stand/live to produce whatever it is I produce for trade). Even an environment of virtual economy requires a place to store servers (land). So, in order to secure my land (foregoing the dicussion of how I obtain the land in the first place), some form of protection must

  • Re: What are your opinions on Noam Chomsky?

From what I have gathered he seems to keep changing the vocabulary of anarchy to fit whatever opinion he happens to express in that moment -- an interesting feat for a linguistic theorist.

  • Re: Freeest country in the world?

After reviewing all the possibilties given in this thread, the answer seems to be: nowhere. Every nation listed (and every other) seems to operate on the principle that the state (to some degree) "owns" the individual without recognition of personal sovereignty. I suppose one possible option would be to establish the freeest nation within
