I love it, Stef, thanks for taking the suggestions of a few listeners from the previous iteration, it looks great-- busy without being hectic or cluttered or disjointed.

Re: bronze plus – new FDR website preview

Thanks for the sneak peek, I really like the new website! It is well-organized, easily navigable and quite pretty, especially the landing page. However, there are some things I think could be better:

I found some of the links hard to read due to them being on the background gradient. Actually, no, only one link is hard to read: the first one on Videos page. But I think it would look better and more consistent if all the pages had a frame around the content, like the animation on the landing page does.

I found the alternating sky blue background on Free Books page to conflict with the rest of the colors on the website.

Is this useful? I did find some really minor issues as well (I may have an issue with pedantry), but I don't want to nit-pick unless you are actually looking for that kind of feedback. Let me know if you are, I'd be happy to put my pedantry to a good use.

I'd have to agree with the font being difficult to read because of the background gradient. I still would like to see the links under "Community" jazzed up a little bit. Well done FDR web design team! I'm very excited about this.

All right, so the really minor details:

    • On the landing page, the four links just below the animation are not evenly spaced and the third one from the left has jagged corners.
    • The shadow below the navigation bar has a darker part from the left corner to below the Podcasts link.
    • The dividing '|' between the links to The God of Atheists and Revolutions at the top of Books page is underlined and fails to divide.

Re: bronze plus – new FDR website preview

As I have said before with the earlier preview, I think this is a vast improvement over the current site. That said, I think there are a few things that could do with tweaking, some more than others. I have written up a review of sorts for your perusal, I hope it is useful.

    General issues:

Logo - The one in the header, while good when a larger size like in the landing page slides, appears pixelated when at the current size. A member on the forum created an excellent logo some time ago. Is there any reason why this is not been utilised?

Background colour - Does not match the rest of the theme. Try a free colour matching service like Color Blender or ColorSchemer. Text in blue part of background hard to read, I suggest a separate background for parts with text. Use the background used on the landing page, ie. white with rounded corners.

Body text size - Far too big. It should be the same as the menu text size or smaller.

Copyright notice - This doesn't fit with voluntaryist philosophy. Copyright is currently a statist institution. Perhaps replace it with something along the lines of... "♡ 2011 Freedomain Radio. Copying is an act of love. Please copy and share." This is what is used on the Mimi and Eunice site. More suggestions on the Copyheart site.

Speed - The site loads rather slowly. My suggestion would be to put it through Page Speed Online (it's free) and implement the suggestions there. At the moment the preview site scores 68/100.

Search - Doesn't work, no search results appear. In Safari at least, when one clicks on the search box a highlight box appears. The highlight is out of sync with the shape of the box. This isn't as big a deal as search not working. I'm note sure if this is because it isn't enabled on the preview, or just something that isn't finished yet.

    Specific pages:

Home - I like the slides, very nicely done. The buttons below draw attention to the important pages, also good. The YouTube subscribe button below the awesome Facebook button sticks out like a sore thumb. Is it necessary to have two YouTube links on the same page? Also, the news ticker at the bottom of the page is a bit of a distraction as it takes up a lot of white space and takes a while to load. Perhaps remove it or make it a horizontal ticker instead.

Podcasts - I like the tabs for each volume of the podcasts. It's too bad that when you click on them they don't expand/slide open to reveal a list of all the podcasts in the volume. At the moment the list of podcasts at the bottom of the page aren't really connected to the rest of the page. Some custom buttons for the podcatchers would be an idea as well, in order to tie them in with the feel of the site.

Videos - I like the list of videos with the previews, titles, and short summaries. What doesn't really work is the YouTube subscribe button in the right column, nor does the column of embedded videos. I would suggest a custom YouTube subscribe button, as well as the use of tabs like on the podcast page to highlight the various embedded video series, and when clicked it reveals the video/playlist embed in question.

Free Books - I like the graphics for the books, very nice. Some of the covers could be updated, however, to match the style of the later book covers. Great graphic for buying the print copies. Colour-matching is needed for the alternating backgrounds for each book as the blue doesn't fit the rest of theme. The podcast list at the bottom of the page doesn't fit with the style of the site. A link to a page with a list of podcasts (not just the RSS feed) would be more appropriate as this is a page for books.

Sunday Show - Not much to say here except that the images used as headings for the options for participation take up a lot of horizontal space. I suggest squeezing them into three columns, using boxes like on the landing page with white background and rounded corners.

Community - This page feels very lonely. It's too bad the forums, chat, and meetups can't be integrated into the site properly (unless of course a way has been found to do this). I suggest some nice graphics similar to my suggestion for the Sunday Show page, three columns, etc.

Donate - This page is a simple copy and paste, so it could use some jazzing up. I suggest fixing the table so that the colour scheme matches that on the Free Books page. The table could be moved up to sit next to the blurb about FDR. This would leave the donation options sitting below. I think it would look best to have each donation option set out much like the button/links on the landing page, horizontal and with some flashy graphics highlighting the difference between each type of subscription (bronze, silver, gold, etc). Probably could come up with a better Thank You graphic as well.

About - This page is a bit muddled. The feedback section might not be the sort of thing one would want on a site for philosophy, as these testimonials are usually used to sell shady products on the Internet. The graphic at the top of the page needs to be enclosed like the slides on the landing page, same with the Podcast Awards graphic. Next to the Podcast graphic I would slot in the blurb about Stef, perhaps with a better photo.

The new website looks AWESOME! :)

    I might have missed it, but I didn't see a "contact/feedback" page.

Wow! It looks amazing. Very professional looking. It's hard to believe it all started with a guy talking into an MP3 player on his drive to work. I especially loved the True News banner, I thought that was great. I also thought that the idea of having a sperate link on the homepage for the Sunday show was a VERY good idea.

They're really really nit-picky, but there's two things that I noticed. The first was that the homepage seemed to be very slow for me, I think it was because their was so much content on it. The second was that it surprised me to find the podcast browser tucked away in the bottom right of the page, I would have expected it to be the centre feature.

    Looks amazing!

I think the scrolling at the bottom really takes aways from the beauty and thrill of the top of the page. Maybe add a link at the top for the most recent podcasts/videos......

    surreal:
On the landing page, the four links just below the animation are not evenly spaced and the third one from the left has jagged corners.

Using the inspector in Safari I figured out how to fix this problem. I removed the width parameter (it was set to 24% or there about for each element) and I changed the margin-right parameter to 8px instead of a %. I also made the far right element float:left instead of right.
