For some reason, people who do this remind me of tax resisters.

Don't assume that just because he renounces his citizenship he won't be taxed as an American citizen.  In fact the IRS assumes people who get a tax reduction by renouncing their citizenship are doing so for that reason and treats the renunciation as invalid.  No trial naturally and the burden of proof would be on the individual if there were one.

That's exactly my point.  It's like trying to battle a 700lb Gorilla on its own turf. 

This includes "non-violent" protests like walking up to armed soldiers/police/firefighters (with hoses) and provoking attacks from them.  Ghandi & MLK style protesting (in my view) is destructive and teaches people that violence is the only way to get something done.  This is not correct.
