    False anarchists meet anarcho-capitalists

A video of some folks who claim to be anarchists protesting DC Comics and Time Warner. A group of folks who say they are anarcho-capitalists show up.

...at the root of an anarchist society, is the idea that everyone's needs should be met; that we aren't competing for resources, because we've thrown away the idea of private property... where resources are shared voluntarily...

These people always seem to lay private property at the root of the problem. It's not private property, but public power over private property that's the problem. Why can't they see this?

They don't wear libertatis equilibritas pendants. They don't wave the gold and black flag.

Damn the flag. I just wish they'd pay attention to their THINKING.

I know what you mean. They are leftists. I see that next to your posts their is an image of a guy wearing an anarchist symbol or logo pendant. Have you come across a libertatis equilibritas symbol pendant?

Actually, it's kind of a really bad joke.

I hate 'pithy' avatars. I had my own picture there for a long time, but kept getting complaint after complaint after complaint about it. Apparently, people don't want to see real faces. So, I went hunting for the campiest thing I could find. Low-and-behold, I found this picture of a kit-bashed G.I. Joe Action-Team doll, that looks like Stefan with a full beard! The pendant around his neck is actually "AT" for "Action Team" (I had all the gear when I was a kid), but it really does, ironically, look like the anarchy symbol.

So, I've got all kinds of layered irony in this picture: A doll, that looks like Stefan, that wears a symbol that looks like the anarchy sign, that's REALLY a hired gun who works on a special team that does covert interventions into foreign countries, kills people, and steals things - all in the name of American Patriotism.

Well that explains the "T". Stonewall Jackson made referense to the black flag. His blag flag however was the Holy Bible.

Too bad the arguments offered by the anarcho-capitalists were cut out. Might have been interesting.

Clearly whoever produced the video did not side with the anarcho-capitalists.

I don't know where they would have gotten one of those sexy black and gold flags, I guess nationalism never took off in the Market Anarchist crowd. Sad [:(] Stick out tongue [:P]

Frankly, I did not find the supposed anarcho-capitalist in that video very compelling either. Trying to argue that Time Warner is clean and pure as the wind-driven snow, does nothing to point out the gun in the room. No more than arguing for the elimination of property rights does.

Both groups in that video, in my opinion, have done us all a disservice. The one group will leave people on the street with the impression that Anarchists are agitating for radical forms of state-sponsored socialist redistributionism, and the other group will leave them with the impression that Anarchists are apologists for Mercantilism.

    Sigh.

Hey Greg, if anyone is so mixed up about what to focus on in life that they have "complaints" about your avatar... well, need I say more?

And regarding the video- I agree- that "anarcho-capitalist" was a real let down.

    Re: False anarchists meet anarcho-capitalists

I don't think it does the movement a service to associate with these people--even if only by name!!!

I found Stef's podcasts toward the beginning of January, after typing "Libertarian" in the itunes search box. I listened to them all. I soon noticed that he made many mentions of this Lew Rockwell guy, so I looked him up on the internet, and found lots of mentions of Anarchy, and lots of shreaky warning sirens went off in my head: "This is crazy, I'm crazy, I'm on an Anarchist website!! EEEEK!!!!"

Luckilly for me, I soon differentiated between Anarcho-Capitalists and other anarchists, but I came REALY close to just dropping the whole thing right then.

Yes, we are by definition anarchists, but I fear that the name has been so sullied that we need a new one.
