    FDR920 - Thoughts

    Hey Guys

Just listened to 920, blew my freakin mind!! (And got me to order some shirts, so i wasn't all that bad Stick out tongue)

Just some thoughts I had while listening. When Stef said that 'if you where the shirts people will ask and then come to the site" something clicked with me that was different to the line of thought Stef went on. I thought that one of the reasons that I didn't spread the word as much as I could have is that I was scared others would become philosophers, like, what made me 'me' would be taken away if everyone became a philosopher.

Any thoughts, comments, hell I'd be happy to just hear some other people's reaction to the podcast.

I havent listened to it yet, but I had a different approach. Not so much since I've been at FDR, but when I was very into objectivism I got off being an intellectual bully of sorts. Now I wasnt mean or aggressive, but  very pedantic and mocking in a sort of way. I certainly felt smarter, with an intellectual edge. FDR has certainly helped me humble myself.

To quote the podcast, it was like a "swift kick in the ass".  One that I reacted to with quite a bit of anger, followed by a lot of pain, followed by introspection, followed by a bit of a denial, and finally followed by understanding.  ...actually, finally followed by action, or at least a plan for action.  Listen to the podcast, and listen to your reaction to it.

Learning to listen to my reactions to anything and everything has been a long uphill climb, but one I am certainly glad I've started. I'm nowhere near the top, but I feel orders of magnitude better about my life than I had just a year ago.

Everyone is a philosopher already. Just a bad one.

I haven't listened to the podcast; I'm going in order. But I can say that I haven't ordered any T-shirts because I know I probably will never wear them and hence it would be a waste of money. I didn't participate in the email contest because I don't have a lot of free time and I think I can contribute to FDR in other ways. Hope that helps.

Why would you never wear them?

Because I am somewhat particular (not insanely) about clothes, i.e. the fit, style, etc....and T-shirts and cotton polos almost never fit me right.  And if they do fit they almost always shrink and get all funny fitting after the first wash (I'm 6 foot 3 inches). So when I saw they were FOTL brand I wrote them off.

I just looked again though and saw some styles I didn't see before, i.e. the hoodies and the American Apparel T-shirts. So I may invest in one of those when funds loosen up. Were those added later because I only remember a few basic styles when I looked?

Yes, they were added later - and you should really listen to 920, if you think FDR clothing is mostly about fashion...Smile

If I understand correctly it's about spreading the message? If so I think there are multiple ways to do so. Clothing/fashion is a personal preference. If it means something more to others, by all means....

Not to take away from everyones philosophical fashion "sense" but there was a funny line, and I'm certainly paraphrasing, "If people don't want to hear you why would they want to hear your shirt?"  That brought a mirthful tear to the eye as much as I like getting "messages" out.

I think 920 helped me a lot. It was definitely motivating.

I certainly don't have any fashion sense that FDR apparel could upset.

I listened to it....I didn't realize how important the clothing sales were. To be honest I don't see such direct causation between buying and wearing a T-shirt and spreading the message of freedom. I certainly see it is one possible way of advertising but I am having trouble finding grounds for all the condemnation in the podcast for people not buying one. Just my take.
