    Shutter Island

Hola Stef.  Just saw Shutter Island, and I must say it's a psychological/philosophical feast.  I don't think I've seen a film address psychology so directly in many years.  Would love your opinion on it, if you ever got around to seeing it.

I highly recommend this film for all FDRers.  DiCaprio's performance really lets you peer into a violent mind like I've yet to see in film.

Not so much with the Scorsese and Tarantino violence.  How did it address psychology directly?

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll keep this in mind. Wink

The very finest example of a peek into a psychotic, violent mind that I've seen is "Lost Highway". I highly recommend it if you aren't averse to David Lynch.

    Re: Shutter Island

There's actually almost no violence in Shutter Island at all.  Sorry for the late response btw Nate--haven't logged on lately.

The movie is all about Dicaprio's character's repression of memories and trauma, and how he creates illusions for himself to cope--the illusions are portrayed literally, which is why the movie works so well.  I highly recommend it.

EDIT:  Although there isn't much violence, there are a handful of scenes that are extremely disturbing; without spoiling much storywise, you see dead bodies at Auschwitz, and dead children. I would say they are much more disturbing than the mindless violence in other Scorsese films.  So in that sense, it might be a more challenging viewing...

Just saw it. It's a great movie. Didn't got the very ending though. Anyone wants to chat about it sometime? Smile

By the way, it would be great to see FDR review-analysis of this movie Smile
