    Stef.

I am going to tell you on sunday that, once the internet is freely and abundantly in cellphones and we can have FDR fully with us wherever we go, the power of the comunity, the podcasts, the feedback, the wisdom; you will become the leader of the free world. I think this will happen in about 4 or 5 years. So, you've got to get ready.

    An inaguration speech??

Re: The future of Freedomain Radio

I'm not really an active poster on the board but I listened to the podcast last night and I thought there were some good ideas. I definitely think the training the trainer would be useful to me and would pay for it. One thing I was thinking about was maybe putting a where do you live? section on the board so people can possibly get together in person with others who live in close proximity to one another to share ideas and practice debate etc. I know some members have their location listed but the information is not available in a centralized location. You would have to go through all the individual users to see if anyone happens to be in your area. Trying to live with virtue and getting corrupt and superficial relationships out of your life can be a bit lonely and speaking for myself I would feel much more encouraged actually seeing a live human being that shares these ideas and wants to spread them. Having this feature may also encourage guests on the board to sign up if they see someone from their area and they might want to send  them a message.Smile

I heard a rumor that an FDR myspace was on the works. Any updates?

Out of curiosity, may I ask why?

Total isolation from even those very close to our world-view doesn't strike me as a good idea.......

They are isolating us, that's the point.

    I know.... I know well....

Still.... it seems like helping them to run the blade through our wrists.....

I fear we will end up looking like the sneering bitter loner who spits upon all not within his tiny tight-knit crew...

    (hmmm, that image sounds familiar.....)

Wow, I actually have an urge to say something like "do we want to be right or successful?" WhereTF is that coming from?

I felt anxiety in that direction as well. There is another community with many ex FDR members that seems to belong a lot higher on the attack list, but I still would not think it is a good idea to attack them. Something tells me: how do we get others to take their coats off, by blowing a nasty wind, or by heating up the sun? (to use a recent analogy). We would not like them to grab their coats tighter.

We are not the bitter ones.  We are not the loners.

Isn't that a false dichotomy ? You can refer people to oovoo for a great video conferencing product, eventhough they are not all atheist ancaps, you can refer people to mises for great economics/historical info, eventhough they are not all atheists. If we fight every organisation with weirdos in it, we can not even go to the supermarket anymore. Besides that, it would give some sLIMY people a lot of power. They only have to become a member of say athefest forum, fire up some threads that are anti FDR, and the whole organistation of athefest is FDR enemy.

Not 100% applicable, but I think there are some relevant ideas here.

Re: The future of Freedomain Radio

great article, but especially after last sunday's call in I was thinking, maybe the principle at play here is:

'attack the most rational, because you have most chance in convincing him'

It explains the criticism on Stef in the testing bridges thread, or why an organisation is attacked that is very close to our beliefs (skipping over others that are much more evil, but also much more irrational).

I think I act like that myself as well most of the time: it is not rational to attack the most irrational

That does not make it rational to attack the most rational either, but you search for something in between the Unarian cult and the most rational I guess. Any ideas ?
